Roma

We finally arrived at our accommodation at 5pm - 33 hours after leaving home! Millefiori Guestrooms is within walking distance to the main Termini railway station and to central Rome. We have quite a large room on the fourth floor, with access via the teeniest elevator you have ever seen! Our window overlooks a narrow, internal courtyard which is shared by several 6-storey buildings. We also have access to a kitchen / dining / sitting room, which is really nice and quite spacious. There are two bathrooms shared between three sets of guests. All in all, it's a lovely place to stay.

A short evening walk in the local area to stretch out our flying kinks led us to the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore. Wow! Huge, lavishly decorated, absolutely amazing. Photos can't do it justice.

We then bought our first gelato (ananas - pineapple) and kept wandering. A couple of other churches were closed, and then we found Santa Maria degli Angeli. It looked like a small, ancient Roman building from the outside, but inside it was bigger than the MCG. Not as lavish as Maria Maggiore but equally impressive, with lots of ginormous paintings throughout.  Fantastic!
