Mürren to Beckenried

We got up this morning to eat, pack and clean. We went around to say goodbye to Kitty and Albert, then headed slowly up the hill to the gondola station to catch the 10.55am gondola down. Another spectrum of transport with gondola, bus, mountain train, train, another train and another bus. There was some lovely scenery on the Interlaken-Luzern leg.

We asked for a map at the Beckenried TI, where they don’t speak English, but we managed! We arrived at our accommodation at 2.45pm. We have a good sized room with a shared bathroom, extra toilet, shared kitchen and shared living/dining area.

Nice lake views, too.

A quick trip to the supermarket (via the TI again), then we went on the gondola from Beckenried up to Klewenalp (1593m). It’s only CHF 10 after 4pm, so we waited five minutes for the cheap fare.  It’s a goodly long ride.

At the top there was a small colony of marmots in an enclosure.  It was interesting to see them up close. They are rodents, and related to squirrels.  They live between 800m and 3200m and hibernate through the winter.

There was also a small church up there.  Interesting that someone has gone to all that trouble, as there’s not much else on the mountain.

There was also a large swing and a bench with wonderful views over the Vierwaldstättersee (Lake Lucerne).  It was a bit hazy, but still lovely.

Back home for a quick cuppa before Caelli and I decided to check out the swimming area.  Too cold! It’s all melted snow!
